In 1864, the "Bauverein für Arbeiterwohnungen" was founded in Darmstadt to create urgently needed housing in the rapidly growing residential city. Today, the science city of Darmstadt is still growing and housing is scarcer than ever before.

As the city's property subsidiary, bauverein AG has made an important contribution to creating affordable housing for broad sections of the population since its foundation and has thus left its mark all over the city over the decades: urban development and bauverein AG are inextricably linked in many places.

2020

An innovative six-storey timber-hybrid system house is therefore being built in Kurt-Schumacher-Straße. There will be 30 flats with a total area of 2096 square metres, all of which are subsidised.

2019

At the beginning of June, the first new buildings on the Lincoln estate were finally ready for occupation.

2018

The large-scale modernisation of Viktoriastrasse 42 was a pilot project for hemp insulation in an apartment building.

2017

At the end of June, construction work begins on a site in Rodgaustraße for a construction project comprising 32 subsidised flats.

2016

The ensemble in Rhön- and Spessartring comprises 50 buildings built in the 1920s

2015

At Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse 5, the major modernisation of a tower block built in 1966 begins with a tenant information event.

2014

A visionary construction project will be completed in May 2014

2013

In Blütenallee, 88 new flats with occupancy rights for the city of Darmstadt are to be built.

2012

As in autumn 2011, bauverein AG is responding to the continuing high demand for student accommodation and is offering flats for shared student accommodation in time for the start of the 2012/2013 semester.

2011

The major modernisation of "In der Kirchtanne 6" in Eberstadt-Süd took just under 14 months, and bauverein AG and tenants will celebrate its completion together in October.

2010

After around a year of construction, the refurbishment of the residential buildings at Moltkestrasse 27-37 is successfully completed.

2009

The properties at Moltkestrasse 27-37 will be renovated, modernised and extended from July.

2008

bauverein AG is upgrading its living space with modern telecommunications equipment.

2007

The construction of 36 family-friendly flats in Elisabeth-Schumacher-Straße begins.

2006

bauverein AG tackles further new builds: construction begins on 42 flats in the Fritz-Dächert-Siedlung, 114 condominiums in Goethestrasse and 24 condominiums with underground car park in Holzhofallee in Darmstadt.

2005

The construction work on Helgolandring in Münster and on Anne-Frank-Straße, Nussbaumallee and the student flats on Eschollbrücker Straße in Darmstadt can be completed.

1985-2004

Darmstädter Wohnungsbaugesellschaft celebrates "125 years of Bauverein für Arbeiterwohnungen" in 1989.

1965-1984

In May/June 1972, a tenants' representative body is set up for the first time: In the first tenant council elections, one tenant council member and one deputy can be elected in each of 15 constituencies.

1945-1964

In 1964, the Bauverein für Arbeiterwohnungen celebrates its 100th anniversary.

1900-1944

After the First World War, co-operation with the city of Darmstadt grows.

1864-1899

As a reaction to the inhumane housing conditions, the Bauverein für Arbeiterwohnungen, today's bauverein AG, was founded on 6 October 1864.
